Choosing the right school to pursue your tertiary education can be stressful, especially when you are thinking of studying abroad. As someone who has taken the leap of furthering my education at PSB Academy in Singapore as an international student, I, too, was once at the crossroads you face.

However, after experiencing life in Singapore, I wholeheartedly recommend choosing Singapore as your destination and PSB Academy as your home away from home if you are looking for a unique yet nurturing experience. Here are some reasons why.

Why I Chose to Study at PSB Academy

Growing up in Canada, I knew I wanted to pursue my higher education elsewhere. While exploring my options, Singapore quickly rose to the top of my list due to the reputation of its education system. But more importantly, the country is safe and a favoured destination among international students, which gave me a sense of assurance that I, too, could adjust to and enjoy life in Singapore without worries.

With a clear sense of direction, I immediately researched programmes that allowed me to move to Singapore with a student pass. It was during this process that I stumbled across PSB Academy and became intrigued by it.

1. Excellent Reputation and Accessibility

The school had excellent reviews from other international students, and the campus is conveniently located in the heart of the city. Well-served by public transport like the MRT, this makes the daily commute to PSB Academy easy, a major plus point for foreigners like me who are unfamiliar with getting around in Singapore.

2. Established, Targeted Programme at PSB Academy

As I have already set my sights on studying media and communications, I scrutinised PSB Academy’s Diploma in Media and Communications. I was instantly convinced that it was the right choice for me.

Unlike other schools, PSB Academy’s courses are focused and directed, allowing me to concentrate on my areas of interest without having to take unrelated electives to fulfil my credits. Jointly offered with Coventry University, one of the Top 51 Universities in the UK, I can also be assured that my certification is recognised and benefits my future.

Above all, I was able to complete both my Diploma and Degree programme within two years, enabling me to save time and money spent on tuition fees. All things considered, I commenced my application, and with the help of the school’s supportive advisors, the process was a breeze, making my move to Singapore fuss-free.

What I Love as an International Student in Singapore

Alone in a foreign country far from home, I’d be lying if I said I was not apprehensive. But before long, I quickly felt welcomed in Singapore and created memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

1. Welcoming Culture

One of the things I love about studying in Singapore is the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and nationalities. The student body at PSB Academy is incredibly diverse, which allowed me to expand my network. It also exposed me to fascinating cultures that broadened my perspective and taught me how to communicate better with people from different backgrounds. Meanwhile, the locals are friendly and polite – which is always a pleasant surprise for a newcomer to any country.

2. Practical Approach to Teaching

I was also grateful for how practically oriented the courses at PSB Academy were. For instance, the marketing communications class that I took gave me the opportunity to create a marketing report that was invaluable for my professional portfolio.

Likewise, preparing for professional experience strengthened my resume and portfolio as a content creator. It also allowed me to step back and evaluate what I have to offer, so I can equip myself with other skills that further set me apart from the crowd. With the knowledge and experiences I gained from PSB Academy, I was empowered with what I needed to succeed.

3. Supportive Social Circle

A daunting aspect of being an international student is the absence of your familiar social circle. While I do not get homesick often, I appreciated the social support offered at PSB Academy in terms group project activities, through which I made new friends who helped make Singapore feel like home.

4. A City of Experiences

The never-ending list of activities to fill the weekends is also a highlight of studying in Singapore. From engaging in sports activities to enjoying the pleasant weather, partying at wild nightlife spots and exploring local and international fare, there is something to discover every day. As someone who enjoys hanging out with friends, having opportunities to bond outside of school significantly adds to my experience as an international student.
